Difference Between Polyurethane and Lacquer

Polyurethane  can be sprayed, wiped, or brushed on. Lacquer  can be sprayed or brushed on.

Polyurethane  takes between 24 hours to 30 days to cure. Lacquer  dries in only 5 or 10 minutes.

Polyurethane's  viscosity is thick. Lacquer's  viscosity is thin.

Polyurethane  can be used for indoor or outdoor projects. Lacquer  is better for indoor use.

Polyurethane  oil-based is the most durable. Lacquer is sensitive to scratches, chemicals and heat.

Polyurethane  can have a gloss, satin or matte finish. Lacquer  can have a high gloss or matte finish.

Polyurethane  is quite pricey. Lacquer  is more affordable.
